Environmental Association of Ocean City Environmental Studies Scholarship
The Environmental Association of Ocean City Environmental Studies Scholarship is an endowment established by the organization to perpetuate the legacy of their good works. Founded in 1977 and granted non-profit status in 1978, the Environmental Association of Ocean City had as its mission the protection of wetlands, in and around Ocean City. In 1982, the Association became the leading force behind restoring the historic 59th Street Fishing Pier. The pier was a landmark structure built in 1913 as a private concern. When it closed in 1982, the Association sought to save it from an uncertain fate and restore it as a public recreation site. After twenty-five years of public service, the Association disbanded and left its residual assets to fund scholarships for the benefit of full-time matriculated students majoring in Environmental Science, with a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0. The selected recipient shall have a proven commitment to community service.
