The Elmore Family

Dr. Elizabeth Christopher Elmore, professor of Economics at Stockton University, and her husband Dr. Richard F. Elmore established the Frances Leonilda Acerra Christopher Memorial Fund and Stockton Center for Economic and Financial Literacy Endowment.

The Elmore family created the scholarship to honor Elizabeth’s mother, Frances Leonilda Acerra Christopher. Affectionately known as “Babe,” Christopher died peacefully on Jan. 5, 2015 — less than three weeks from her 102nd birthday — while vacationing in Hawaii. Born into a first-generation, Italian-American family, Christopher was one of 17 children raised in Long Branch by her loving parents, Elizabeth Lista Acerra and Luciano Acerra. She lived a full, active life as a wife and mother, raising two daughters with her husband, Dominic. After she was widowed at the age of 62, Frances joined her local leisure club and traveled often but she especially enjoyed Disney World and annual winter trips to Hawaii.

Furthermore, the Elmores founded the Stockton Center for Economic and Financial Literacy to develop and deliver educational content for New Jersey schools. The fund offers program support, academic resources and services to promote basic financial skills and understanding among teachers and students.
