The John W. Searight Memorial Scholarship was established in honor of Social Work Professor Emeritus John Searight. The scholarship celebrates his legacy of advocacy and provides vital support to students preparing to enter the profession. The scholarship celebrates his legacy of advocacy and provides vital support to students preparing to enter the profession. Professor Searight joined Stockton in 1973 and served as professor, dean, union president, and faculty assembly president. A dedicated educator, he was known for his commitment to underrepresented and economically disadvantaged populations and his deep professional interest in child welfare. After retirement, he co-founded a consortium of New Jersey colleges and universities that expanded scholarship opportunities for students pursuing careers in public child welfare. He is remembered not only for his guidance to students and colleagues, but also for his love of birding, nature, and good food.
