Anne Fairchild Pomeroy will be remembered as a tireless advocate for the vulnerable, a legendary teacher, and a first-rate philosopher and scholar in her field. She saw philosophy as the pursuit of wisdom in its full measure, as bound up with that of beauty and social justice. It is a conversation oriented toward the truth, whose logic draws us toward one another, into community. Community is not just a means through which individual persons seek truth and happiness, but an end-in-itself, without which our personhood is less than fully realized, beautiful, and true. Anne was committed to the idea that good scholarship does not merely interpret experience but should illuminate and empower the unending work of making the world better and more just.
